Phase 1 - Refurbishment of the Heritage Heart

The refurbishment of the Heritage Heart encompasses the A Block classrooms, Cumbooquepa and the Heritage Gardens. This is an exciting phase of the Master Plan. A Block (the Fewings Building) forms an integral part of the School's history. The building first opened in 1920, and the original plaque will remain a feature of the building's significance to the School community. This school area will be restored to its former grandeur with characteristic brick and lintel construction and a sacred timber weatherboard façade facing Cumbooquepa. The project will re-establish the character features of this building while introducing new elements that respect and celebrate its traditional fabric.

Phase 1 Progress

Phase 2 - SomerFields (Stage 1)

Somerville House will lead the way for all girls’ schools, with construction underway for SomerFields. Stage 1 includes the development of four main fields, two practice fields, ten hard courts, cricket nets, temporary facilities, civil works and car parking infrastructure. To learn more about the full plans for our world-class sporting and recreational precinct, click here. SomerFields will complement our current facilities, optimising sporting opportunities for our students.

We acknowledge and thank Old Girl Ms Bethwyn Todd (Class of 1989) for her generous contribution of half a million dollars, matched by the generous support from the Somerville House Foundation, which enabled the School to reallocate funds to expand the scope of the Stage 1 works.

Phase 2 - SomerFields Week 1 Term 2 Progress Update

Please enjoy progress images of SomerFields taken Monday 17 April 2023.

The driveway and carpark passed all inspections during the Easter break to allow for asphalt to be placed during Week 1 of Term 2. The courts have been sealed and prepped to allow them to be painted Australian Open blue.  These images also show the single playing field that is the only field still left to be turfed.

Phase 3 - Senior School Precinct

The Senior School Precinct, including the Heritage Heart A Block restoration, will position Somerville House as one of the premier girls’ schools of its time by establishing a new standard for educational facilities synonymous with our pedagogy and culture. With a focus on preserving the existing heritage components of the campus while building modern technology-enabled learning spaces for the future, we are utilising and recycling existing buildings to their fullest potential. The new Senior School Building will include four new specialist areas (SLAs), a new Art Precinct, Senior Canteen, twenty general learning areas (GLAs), quiet study zones and change/locker rooms. This project intends to raise the standard and flexibility of the Senior amenities to match those recently completed works in the Goodwin, Bauer and Foundation buildings.
