Important information for parents
Driving etiquette on Graham Street and Stephens Road
I ask parents to make a concerted effort to be courteous and respectful towards others in our community during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up periods on the streets surrounding the School. It is all parents’ responsibility to follow road rules and use common sense approaches when dropping-off and picking-up their children.
The School has engaged an external traffic management company to assist in developing strategies for improving the traffic congestion on Graham Street. To assist us with this project, could you please take a moment to complete a three question survey. Click here to complete the survey.
Newsletters in Term 3 – your feedback requested
In response to feedback, in Term 3 we trialled some changes to the Honour Roll newsletter. To ensure that this newsletter is reaching our school community, I would ask you to complete a short survey. Your opinion matters to us. Click here to complete the survey.
Acceptable use of ICTs policy
We recognise the world in which we live and learn is increasingly shaped by technological advancements and ICT can be a powerful tool for transforming learning for all our students. The current Australian Curriculum has been written to provide a foundation for learning across seven general capabilities; one of which is competence in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
From time to time, I will draw your attention to various school policies as a reminder of any updates to align with changes in legislation or school policy. This week, I encourage all parents and students to review our Acceptable Use of ICTs Policy by clicking here.
Parents will know that while students are connected via any device to the Somerville House network, they are subject to our school’s firewall and filtering system. This means that if a website has been deemed inappropriate by the School, then the inappropriate website will be blocked. When students take their device away from the School and use the device at home, it may be that they no longer experience blocked sites, unless the household makes use of filtering or a firewall.
Staffing updates
We farewell Miss Eloise Hefferan, Teacher Aide in the Junior School. Miss Hefferan has been relieving for Ms Tess Millman while she has been on Maternity Leave and Ms Millman will return in Term 4.
We send our good wishes to Mrs Leah Shackleton, Teacher of Pre-Prep, as she takes Maternity Leave for the next twelve months, embarking on her new role ‘Motherhood’!
I also extend good wishes to staff and parents, with the hope you enjoy the interval and respite from school routines over the next fortnight. For travellers around Queensland, I wish you a safe journey.
I look forward to welcoming our refreshed and energised students for the commencement of the fourth term on Tuesday 6 October.
Mrs Kim Kiepe
