On 26-27 August, Somerville House proudly hosted the BMS MusicFest competition for the second year, with more than twenty other schools participating across the weekend. Over 200 Somerville House musicians represented the School at this event covering Choirs, Concert Bands, Symphony Orchestras and String Orchestras.

Somerville House welcomed highly regarded choral conductor, Jenny Moon as their Conductor in Residence, working with almost every group in the choral department. Ms Moon commented on the excellence of the overall musicality and musicianship of the Somerville House groups.

Shannon Leonard, Somerville House Choral Director said, “For our year 12s, it was their last official performance as a member of Cantrice, our auditioned senior choir, and very special for them to perform at their best to take out Gold, especially due to the difficulty of repertoire performed.“

Sponsored by Yamaha Music Australia, MusicFest, offers a platform for primary and secondary students to showcase their talents in a concert environment, where all ensembles and choirs are professionally adjudicated by Queensland and interstate adjudicators.

Somerville House Director of Music, Will Eager said “Somerville House is home to some of the best young emerging voices and musicians in the country and we couldn’t be prouder of the diligence, resilience, perseverance, and wonderful collegiality displayed by our students in undertaking such a demanding musical endeavour at MusicFest.”
