From the Principal
At this point in the term, school life is very busy. Students are preparing for upcoming assessments of which teachers will soon be marking. Co-curricular activities are well underway with the QGSSSA and Andrews Cup Swimming Championships, Choir Camp, and Chess tournaments all keeping our students busy outside the classroom.
In addition, there have been multiple events over the past fortnight including a successful SomerVillage event. We were at full capacity for this Junior School parent information evening. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to this event, we are contemplating hosting another session which will be communicated via SomerLink and social media.
I was delighted to attend the Ladies Long Lunch on Saturday 24 February. This event brought together current parents, Old Girls and Somerville House friends to celebrate the School’s 125th Anniversary. It was wonderful to see the current and past Somerville House community engage and reminisce of times gone by with the school uniform fashion parade.
It was an honour to be the guest speaker at the Fathers Long Lunch held last Friday. Somerville House dads enjoyed a fabulous afternoon at The Loft in Fortitude Valley, and given the number of attendees, I am sure that it will become an annual event!
I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to pencil in the following end-of-term dates on your calendar:
- Old Girls who are Current Parents event on Friday 15 March (insert Humanitix link - Old Girls Who are Current Families 2024 | Humanitix)
- Junior Ensemble Easter Showcase on Monday 25 March
- Choral Festival on Tuesday 26 March
- Student Free Day / Boarders Travel Day on Thursday 28 March
Finally, I remind all families that 2024 Annual Consents are now past the due date. These forms must be completed by all families as they relate to excursions, camps, activities, medical information and media consent to name a few. It is a requirement that each consent is completed. Thank you to those families who have already completed the Consent forms. For those who are yet to complete their Consents, please respond here as a matter of urgency.
