Through new and positive experiences, our girls are encouraged to foster their communication and problem-solving skills, ignite their creativity, and stimulate a sense of independence and adventure.

Year 4 students attend a one-night camp at Thunderbird Park, focusing on teamwork and resilience. Activities include a ‘mud challenge’ course, catapult-making, thunderegg fossicking, creek exploration, and an Indigenous culture workshop. This camp provides a great way for students to get to know their classmates and teachers outside of the formal school environment.

Year 5 students attend a two-night camp at BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park in Helensvale in Term 3. This camp is an opportunity for students to participate in a variety of activities designed to develop leadership and collaborative skills in preparation for Year 6 leadership responsibilities.

Year 6 students attend a three-night camp based in Cairns. This camp explores reef and rainforest environments, including Indigenous perspectives. Activities include rainforest walks, snorkelling on the reef, tropical wildlife studies, and a scenic railway excursion to Kuranda. These activities are designed to promote resilience and independence.

Year 7 students attend a three-day camp at Camp Goodenough in the Tweed Valley in Term 1. Following a theme of Connections, students are encouraged to support one another in challenges. This camp aims to inspire confidence, improve communication skills, promote the importance of teamwork, build self-esteem, and ultimately develop positive relationships with peers, new environments, and adventure.

Year 8 students attend Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre’s Camp Currimundi in Term 2. On this Adventure Camp, students are encouraged to participate in activities including caving, team challenges, and a range of beach and water-based activities. This camp is designed to expand the girls’ centre of influence by helping them to build new social connections within their year group. Through exposure to new and positive challenges, students develop their resilience, confidence, team-building, and communication skills in preparation for Year 9 as leaders of the Middle Years.

In Year 9, students attend a camp delivered by Emu Gully Adventure Education Group at Helidon in the Lockyer Valley. Students complete activities linked to Australian history and focus on core national values such as courage, mateship, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Year 10 students attend a camp at Camp Kokoda, where they engage in activities designed to build leadership and teamwork skills. This camp provides an opportunity for students to challenge themselves and develop a sense of responsibility and independence.

Year 11 students participate in an Outward Bound program that focuses on preparing them for their final year of school and beyond. This camp includes activities that promote self-discovery, resilience, and leadership, helping students to develop the skills they need to succeed in their future endeavours.

Our camp program is an integral part of the Somerville House experience, providing students with opportunities to grow, learn, and develop in a supportive and challenging environment. Through these camps, our students build lasting memories and friendships, and gain valuable skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.
