Leave Your Legacy
A planned gift in your Will or bequest is a chance to create a long-lasting legacy that will continue to support Somerville House into the future.
Every bequest regardless of its size, makes a significant difference, and ensures that Somerville House can look forward to a future as bright and exciting as its past. As an independent school we rely on the generosity of Old Girls, parents and friends of the school. A bequest will cost you nothing today, but will have an enduring impact on future generations of students. All planned gifts to Somerville House are directed to the Somerville House Foundation.
Create a personal legacy by including a gift in your Will. This may include:
- A specified amount or a percentage of your estate.
- The residue of your estate after specific items, money and/or gifts have been given.
- A particular item/s such as property, artworks, jewellery or shares.
- The gift of a life insurance policy or the associated bonuses.
- A gift through a perpetual trust.
A bequest or gift can be tagged for a specific purpose, or be used at the discretion of the Foundation. Examples include:
- Scholarships and Bursaries to ease the financial burden on talented students who may not otherwise have the means to attend Somerville House.
- The preservation and modernising of school facilities for students.
- Unspecified gifts which provide the greatest benefit, to be directed where help is most needed.
Recognising Bequest Donors through the Fewings Fellowship
All those who notify the Foundation of their intention to leave a gift in their Will are invited to become members of the Fewings Fellowship. Named in honour of Somerville House’s Founding Principal, Miss Eliza Fewings, the Fellowship recognises those who have chosen to support the future of the School through a bequest.
By letting us know of your intention to leave a gift in your Will, we are able to express our sincere gratitude and discuss appropriate options for recognition. Understanding your wishes also enables us to honour your intentions fully when your bequest is received.
If this is something you would like to consider, we welcome the opportunity for a confidential discussion with our Principal, Dr Sandra Hastie, or the Chair of the Foundation Board, Ms Michelle Allan.
On behalf of the School and our students, both current and future, we thank you for your generosity and support.

Education is the key to a child’s future. My daughters benefited immensely from their education and friendships at Somerville, which has had a huge influence on their lives.
Mr Barry Scott OAM, Chairman of the Establishment Committee (1984), the first Foundation for a girl’s school in Australia. Inaugural Foundation President (1984 to 1988). Medal of the Order of Australia for ‘service to animal conservation, and to the community’, past parent.
I flourished under the guidance of my teachers, whom I remember with great affection – Miss Morgan, Miss Beeston, Miss White, Miss Shaw, Miss Wilson and Miss George, my gift is in honour of them.
Dr Pamela Davenport (Class of 1954), former History and English teacher.
