As we approach Somerville House's 125th Anniversary in 2024, we are presented with a unique opportunity; to craft a lasting tribute to our students' beginnings, a tangible reminder of the path our school has journeyed. The Somerville House Foundation and Old Girls' Association will join forces with renowned sculptor and distinguished Old Girl, Dr. Rhyl Hinwood AM CF (Class of 1957) to create three bronze sculptures that will immortalise the Pioneers of Somerville House - Misses Eliza Fewings, Constance Harker, and Marjorie Jarrett. To be given as a gift to the School on Commemoration Day 2024, these sculptures embody more than just the origin of our narrative; they symbolise the decades of Old Girls who have entered society as catalysts for positive change, leaders in fields, carrying the enduring legacy of Somerville House. These artworks serve as a reminder to students of their eternal belonging to a distinctive fellowship, and will elevate their aspirations as they walk past them daily.
The Somerville House Foundation extends a warm invitation to our community to join us in this transformative endeavour, where art becomes a bridge connecting preservation, learning and culture. We are seeking to partner with our community to raise philanthropic support to help us to create the 125th Anniversary Artworks. This gift to the School will be a partnership of the Foundation, Old Girls’ Association, Parents, Staff and Friends.
Your support is an investment in an enriched educational journey for students of today and tomorrow. Success in this campaign will help to provide students with a tangible symbol to develop their understanding of our cultural heritage, providing inspiration for them to thrive in the future.
Your gift presents an opportunity to be openly recognised at our School. All gifts to Somerville House will be publicly acknowledged (unless the donor requests anonymity) in the Foundation’s 2024 Impact Report and Connections Magazine. Donors may also make a gift in name of a family member or friend they wish to honour.
Donations of $20,000 or more will be recognised on a plaque erected in the vicinity of the sculptures and will receive a replica set of the keys to Cumbooquepa, designed by Dr Rhyl Hinwood AM CF.
Gifts may be pledged across a maximum of four years.
