Thursday 14 November 2019 marked an important milestone for the Somerville House community as the new four-year Strategic Intent was launched to provide an overall direction for the School’s future.
Introduced by the Somerville House School Council Chair, Mr Jim Demack to parents, students and stakeholders at the 2019 Speech Night, Mr Demack said the Somerville Strategic Intent (2020 to 2023) serves to inspire, motivate and provide a clear vision and priorities for the School over the next four years. In addition, he says the plan includes a commitment to the School’s values, traditions and the motto Honour Before Honours.
“I applaud Principal, Mrs Kim Kiepe on her leadership and her commitment to ongoing consultation with the School community in the lead up to the launch of this Strategic Intent,” Mr Demack said.
“It will provide a clear understanding of the differentiated Somerville House brand, enhance the expression of community amongst all stakeholders and provide a sound basis for governance and effective School Council oversight.”
“This Intent provides the foundation for a dynamic and exciting future for present and future students of Somerville House and I look forward to being a part of its implementation,” he said.
Principal, Mrs Kim Kiepe said the plan, developed in consultation with the School’s key stakeholders through focus groups, feedback forums and surveys, recognises what has been achieved in the previous strategy and gives a review of the major economic, social and technological changes. It also recognises trends that have been reshaping employment, the economy, society and individuals; as well a review of the structure and programs that would further the development of the School.
“I am grateful to the members of the Somerville House community for their input towards the Strategic Intent,” Mrs Kiepe said.
“Our collective efforts will ensure the successful implementation of this next stage for the School,” she said.
Since her inauguration as the twelfth Principal of Somerville House in January, Mrs Kiepe has focussed on strengthening the academic and pastoral care programs, including the introduction of two newly appointed leadership positions with an academic focus, as well as improving operational efficiencies and the allocation of resources to the School’s strategic priorities.
“I highly encourage all the members of the School community to review the Strategic Intent summary in preparation for the start of the new academic year,” Mrs Kiepe said.
“It is a bold plan – but if we work together with a ‘One Somerville’ team approach, as we did in developing the strategy, I believe we will achieve great results,” she said.
