Mrs Matherson is the Deputy Principal (currently, Acting Principal in Term 3) at The Glennie School, Toowoomba, a position she has held since 2018. She brings 14 years’ experience teaching in regional independent girls’ boarding schools and well understands the importance of a strong focus on pastoral care supporting the personal growth of each individual.
In the Deputy Principal role, she has had responsibility for curriculum oversight, the staff professional development program, Information Technology and Services, the extra-curricular program, policies and procedures and daily organisation of the School. Mrs Matherson brings experience with organisation of the International Study Tour program, along with involvement in the enrolment of new students and regional boarding tours. Prior to her appointment as Deputy Principal, Mrs Matherson has held a number of Executive Leadership positions – including Head of Middle Years, Acting Head of School at PLC Armidale, Head of Senior School, Science and PDHPE Coordinator, Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
Mrs Matherson’s strengths lie in the innovative development of a school-wide pedagogy, founded on the work of Marzano and Kendall, along with organisational management and her interest in the design of learning environments to support strong pastoral care for students.
She is known for her calm and professional manner, strategic and collaborative leadership and her absolute commitment to the education of girls.
As a teacher, Mrs Matherson has been a recognised leader in the implementation of the new Senior Curriculum in Queensland and she will provide strong leadership in this area. As a Science and Mathematics teacher, Mrs Matherson has taught across the Years 7–10 levels, as well as the subjects of Biology and Agriculture.
Mrs Matherson is currently studying her Master of Education (eLearning) and is committed to the leadership development of girls and staff.
Attending Pymble Ladies’ College in Sydney as a boarding student, she well understands the life of a boarder. With a career spanning 25 years, Mrs Matherson’s extensive teaching and leading background means that she has developed a thorough knowledge of girls’ learning and growth. I look forward to sharing her experience and expertise with the Somerville House community.
Please join with me to welcome Mrs Matherson to the Somerville House family in 2020.
With every good wish.
